The Hamilton and Us Podcast

The podcast is sure to give Hamilton superfans a detailed look behind the stage curtain and find out all about the creative processes and never before heard stories about the production.

“Discover how it really felt to be in the room where Hamilton happened, as told by the people who were there.

Each week, host Giles Terera – who played Aaron Burr in the original West End cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical Hamilton, and is the author of upcoming book Hamilton and Me: An Actor’s Journal – is joined by key members of the cast and creative team of the London production, plus other special guests, to discuss what it was like to be part of this once-in-a-generation show.

Hear all about their audition stories, that first day of rehearsals, funny and memorable moments, and more – but also about what Hamilton meant to those who were involved, how it changed them as people, and its potential to create positive, meaningful change in our world.”

Episode 1. Thomas Kail

In episode 1, the guest is director Thomas Kail who had a rich career with well-known hits such as In the Heights, The Wiz, and Lombardi, before directing Hamilton with Lin-Manuel Miranda in 2015, which won him a Tony Award.

Tune in to hear about Giles’ first audition for the show, the atmosphere in the Hamilton rehearsal room, what it feels like to win an Olivier Award, and much more.”

Future episodes

6 Episodes are due to be released weekly every Thursday on all major listening platforms and streaming services. It is rumoured that future guests on the podcast could include:

  • Jamael Hermitt-Westman, who played Alexander Hamilton in the West End production and earned him an Olivier Award nomination
  • Chris Jackson, who held the role of George Washington in the original Broadway cast, which earned him a Tony Award nomination
  • Rachel John, who played Angelica Schuyler in the West End production from 2017 – 2018
  • Christine Allado, who plays Peggy Schuyler Maria Reynolds in the West End Production

Reception

The podcast’s first episode has gone down a storm with Hamilton fans so far, with a flurry of rave reviews on social media, while one five star Apple Podcasts review praises both the podcast and Terera’s accomplishments, saying:

“There must be something he can’t do… He acts, he sings, he’s a musician, he writes and he is utterly wonderful at all those things… and now he’s making podcasts look easy. This is a great listen if you love Hamilton, and it’ll bring back memories for the regulars at the VP, but it’s also for anyone who’s interested in theatre and ‘how the sausage gets made’.”
