Arts Around the World: March 5 – 11, 2018
Mark your calendars and save the dates! Here’s what’s happening in the arts around the world this week.
March 5 – 11, 2018
The Glyndebourne Festival Opera production of Brett Dean’s opera Hamlet comes to the Adelaide Festival. For three performances only, the timeless tale of love, betrayal and revenge is taken to new levels through Brett Dean’s vivid and richly lyrical music, highlighted by sensational arias, ensembles and choruses.
What makes a house a home? Multi-award-winning theatre artist Geoff Sobelle casts his penetrating gaze over our favourite four walls in his new theatre work, co-commissioned by the New Zealand Festival. Actor-illusionist-inventor Sobelle is known for his virtuosic works of visual theatre. Here a cast of seven actors and the live music of American folk-rock artist Elvis Perkins invite us into the rituals and relationships that create a home.
Lightning Jar Theatre presents Venus in Fur, at Fortyfive Downstairs. Directed by Green Room Award winner Kirsten von Bibra and starring Darcy Kent and Tilly Legge, the play, by David Ives, is a whip-smart exploration of sexual politics, gender and power through the lens of sadomasochism.
