The Rolling Stones No Filter USA 2021 Tour

In optimistic statements from the band on their announcement in July, Mick Jagger said:

“I’m so excited to get back on the stage again and want to thank everyone for their patience. See you soon!”

The sentiment was echoed by Keith Richards, who also added:

“We’re back on the road! See you there!”

Sadly, soon after the tour announcement drummer Charlie Watts publicly pulled out due to medical reasons. 80 year old Watts is said to be recovering from a procedure that was “completely successful” and is doing well.

The drummer said:

“I am working hard to get fully fit but I have today accepted on the advice of the experts that this will take a while. For once my timing has been a little off. I am working hard to get fully fit but I have today accepted on the advice of the experts that this will take a while.”

While this is a terrible disappointment for Watts and the American fans, there is some comfort to be found in knowing Watts is safe and prioritising his health, and the world wishes him a speedy recovery.

There is a silver lining of sorts, that when The Rolling Stones aren’t out on the road, they are writing – the band confirmed they have been creating new material and particularly during the pandemic period. The song Living In a Ghost Town was released in 2020, and have allegedly been in the studio during the last few years according to Rolling Stone Magazine, who reported that Keith Richards had said:

“We’ve got another five or six tracks and there’s a lot of sort of soul feel about it for some reason without anybody intending to. Obviously right now we’ve got nothing else to do but write some more songs, right?”

While we send our well-wishes to Watts during his recuperation, and to the rest of the band as they embark on the upcoming tour, it’s overwhelmingly positive to see them back on the road and in the studio, and hope that it’s indeed a sign of things to come after the last year.
